Hello, Nexus Church family! 

In a season of life when it seems like a lot of things have been cancelled or postponed, there is A LOT happening in the life of Nexus Church.  So, I hope you will take a moment out of your busy day and read about the few things that our ministry team is going to highlight for you throughout this newsletter.  There’s a lot of important information in here and we are working hard to create opportunities for you to remain connected as a church body and to stay informed.

THE FOOD PANTRY IS HAVING AN AMAZING IMPACT IN OUR COMMUNITY

The first thing I would like to highlight for you is the amazing, ongoing impact our food pantry is having in our community.  We have watched in amazement how God has provided and met the needs of people in their time of need.  It seems like every week we are struck by a personal story of someone we are serving and we get the opportunity to see how God uses our acts of compassion to show them His love, care, and concern for them.  On many occasions, we have watched as recipients eyes filled with tears and they would go on to share how we met a specific tangible need in their lives.  I would encourage you to come and serve and see for yourself!  You can sign up here.  

We are excited to announce that starting in September the food pantry distribution is moving to the 2nd and 4th Saturdays of each month.  This will make it easier for us to serve families who are attempting to work during the week, and it will allow some of our working families the opportunity to serve on the weekend.

Saturday, September 12th, we will be distributing School Success Kits.  With all of the area schools starting this year with distance learning, many of the families we serve through the food pantry have children who are at risk of not having all the resources necessary to be successful.  We believe that God can use Nexus Church to help make a difference!

Therefore, we would like to start collecting the following items for our School Success Kits:

24 count crayons (Crayola preferably) 75 boxes

Markers 75 boxes

Pencils (preferablyTiconderoga)  75 boxes

Pencil sharpener 75

Dry Erase Markers  (2 per child) 150 

Spiral Notebook Wide Rule (3 per child) 225

Composition Notebook (3 per child) 225

Scissors 75

Index cards 75

Post it Notes (various sizes) 150

Ruler 75

Black or Blue Pen  75 

Highlighter (2 per child) 150

Glue Stick (2 per child) 150

Math Manipulatives: 

Deck of playing cards 50

Book drive:  (the goal is to give every child 3 or 4 books)

Gently used books

Leveled Reading books

Spanish leveled reading books

In order to insure that we are not all purchasing the same things, we ask that you register for the items you plan to purchase and donate.  You can register to provide specific items by clicking here.  If you would like to donate financially towards the purchase of items you can do so here.  Please designate your gift as “Food Pantry” and we will ensure these funds go to support the families receiving our assistance.

SIGN-UP TODAY FOR OUR OUTDOOR WORSHIP SERVICE

We are looking forward to our in-person worship service this Sunday in our beautiful outdoor amphitheater located at our Portland Campus.  There is still room in both our 9:30 am and 11:00 am gatherings, but they are filling up fast.  We are limited to 50 people per gathering, so if you are planning to attend please register today. Don’t forget, if you are unable to attend in-person, we will still be streaming our music and message at our normal time of 10:30 am on all our online platforms.

WE ARE HAVING A SPECIAL MEETING OF OUR MEMBERS

Coming up on Tuesday, August 25th we will be hosting a special meeting of the members of Nexus Church.  In this meeting we will be finalizing the legal name change to Nexus Church and approving updated articles of incorporation.  These are some of the final steps necessary in order to finalize the legal merger of our partnering churches with the State of Oregon.  

I will also be sharing some exciting information about our plans for the fall, so we want everyone who is a part of Nexus Church to join us.  You do not have to be a member to attend.  This meeting will be hosted on Zoom and you will be receiving all of the documents and links in an email later this week.

We are excited about all that God is doing at Nexus Church.  I hope that you are enjoying the 21 Days of Prayer and will make the most of all the gatherings, both in-person and online.
